Malawi has a new Chief Commissioner for Prisons of the Malawi Prisons Service. His full name is Masauko Ng’ombeyagwada Wiscot. In a statement signed by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet (OPC) Coleen Zamba dated 17th April 2023, the appointment has been made by President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, in the exercise of powers conferred upon him under section 166 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi.
The statement further continued to state that Ms. Wandika Phiri has been redeployed to the office of the OPC as Principal Secretary responsible for special duties.
