Nankhumwa’s Party Launch Sparks Fear in DPP

PDP Malawi

Peter Mutharika once challenged him to leave the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and form his own party to see if he could garner Malawian support. This challenge was issued in broad daylight at Chonde in Mulanje during the Mulankho Wa Alomwe Cultural ceremony. Yesterday, Mutharika received a resounding answer as a large crowd gathered at Masintha Ground in the capital, Lilongwe, many kilometers away from Mulanje, to witness the launch of the new party.

The next stop for this burgeoning political force is Blantyre, a key battleground where he plans to unleash a political storm to discredit the DPP.

As seen with the rise of UTM, dismissing Nankhumwa’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) could spell disaster for the DPP. Nankhumwa’s PDP is poised to siphon votes from the DPP stronghold, mirroring the impact UTM had. If the DPP remains complacent, they risk finding themselves in the opposition for the next five years, inadvertently benefiting the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
