Mtambo’s Cabinet Ouster Sparks AFORD Endorsement for 2025 Malawi Presidency

Mtambo

In a dramatic turn of events, former Minister of Unity and Culture, Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo, now leading the Citizens for Transformation (CFT) movement, emerged from the shadows of political turmoil to endorse Enoch Kamzingeni Chahana, President of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), ahead of the 2025 elections. Mtambo’s endorsement came amidst a backdrop of palpable frustration, stemming from his dismissal from President Chakwera’s cabinet.

Mtambo’s endorsement was made at Chinsapo ground in Lilongwe during an AFORD political rally on Wednesday, where Mtambo, with unwavering conviction, proclaimed Chahana as the sole saviour capable of rescuing Malawians from the perils inflicted by what he dubbed as President Chakwera’s leadership void.

Denouncing the current administration’s purported cluelessness, Mtambo painted a bleak picture of the nation’s plight under Chakwera’s stewardship. He attributed the prevailing crisis to a profound lack of leadership acumen.

However, skeptics on social media viewed Mtambo’s fervor with suspicion, dismissing his outpourings as a manifestation of deep-seated frustration stemming from his cabinet expulsion.

Critics pointed to Mtambo’s lackluster performance during his tenure in the ministry, suggesting that his dismissal was a warranted consequence of his inefficacy. Joseph Masina, a seasoned political analyst at Shire Times, underscored the transient nature of political appointments, reminding Mtambo that cabinet positions are contingent upon the President’s discretion, and longevity therein is not guaranteed.
