The Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, has issued a directive to the Malawi Police Service, instructing them to evacuate the premises of the Eastern Region Police headquarters within a three-month timeframe. Ng’oma justified this decision by highlighting the severely deteriorated condition of the building, expressing concern that continuing to operate within it jeopardizes the safety of officers and poses an imminent risk of disaster.
“Alternatively, we might engage in talks with the University of Malawi, to rent us an office complex where the police can be operating as we work on constructing new offices,” Ng’oma said.
Ng’oma is undertaking a tour that includes visits to the Eastern Region Police headquarters, Zomba Police Station, the Police Training College, and the headquarters of the Malawi Prison Service.
