Minister Kumkuyu says Chakwera inspected 21 projects in the Lower Shire

As President Chakwera touched down in Lilongwe after his Southern region tour, Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu, hailed the visit as a resounding success. The President’s whirlwind inspection of 21 projects, including the electrifying Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP) and the monumental arrival of a fuel train from Mozambique, was a testament to Malawi’s leap towards progress.

Speaking at Chileka Airport before the President’s departure, Kunkuyu said, “The President came to see the fruits of the government’s development efforts firsthand. From commissioning electrified sites to witnessing the historic connection of the railway line between Malawi and Mozambique, his visit underscores a new era of regional cooperation and infrastructure growth.”

However, Kunkuyu didn’t mince words when addressing the critics: “It’s disappointing that some Malawians fail to grasp the significance of the Malawi-Mozambique railway project. This isn’t just a random rail line—it’s a presidential vision. Without the President’s commitment, this project could have been just another dead-end in the bush. Now, it’s shortening fuel transport times and boosting our economy, even if half the journey remains by road.”

He added that the railway project is far from over. “This is just the beginning. Soon, trains will be roaring all the way from Malaka to Limbe, completing a vital link in our infrastructure network.”
