Catherine Gotani Hara, Speaker of Parliament and Deputy President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has vowed to champion the cause of increasing women’s participation in politics, ensuring representation at every level. Speaking at a rally in Rumphi, Hara emphasized that women’s empowerment is essential for achieving the 50-50 campaign and advancing key development initiatives.
She also rallied support for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s development agenda, highlighting notable progress in economic stability, agriculture, and infrastructure.
North North Regional Chairman Kezzie Msukwa praised the MCP’s commitment to democratic values, noting that this integrity is drawing members from other parties. Rumphi Central MP McDowel Chidumba Mkandawire outlined the party’s plans for youth empowerment, focusing on sports and skills development.
The rally also saw 12 people defect from other political parties, including DPP, UTM, and AFORD. The event was capped off with the launch of the K4 Million Chidumba Trophy, where Rumphi Select triumphed over Kawaza Football Club with a 2-1 victory.
