MCP delivers as Zomba Stadium ready for opening before end of Super League Season

Zomba Stadium

The ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has completed the construction of Zomba Stadium, work which was started by the erstwhile ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) before it was booted out of power in 2020 fresh election.

In the interim, plans are well underway to ensure that the Stadium opens before the conclusion of the current football season. This was made public yesterday while domestic football authorities visited the construction site to evaluate the level of progress and workmanship.

Only a few of the unfinished tasks that need to be completed include the construction of dressing rooms and a perimeter fence around the playing field for the protection of players and match officials.

Caspar Jangale, Club Licensing and Compliance Manager for the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), said the pitch was the project’s most crucial component in terms of football standards and urged the authorities to pay close attention to it.

On his part, Davie Maunde, the mayor of Zomba City, stated that they will be resurfacing the pitch in some areas, which would delay the opening of the facility.

Ellard Malonda who is the Project Manager for DEC Construction Company a firm doing the works, states that they are now working on leveling and grassing the field and also setting up of dressing rooms.
