Pres. Chakwera and first lady Monica

The late John Tembo, who was the country’s longest-serving politician and a member of President Dr. Kamuzu Banda’s initial cabinet during the 1960s, is currently being honored as his body lies in state at BICC Malawi Square in Lilongwe. People from various walks of life, including influential politicians, are paying their final respects to JZU. He is renowned for holding the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) together for a remarkable three decades while the party was in the opposition, a noteworthy accomplishment in the realm of politics.

JZU held the position of Chairman in practically every aspect of the country, contributing to the development of the University of Malawi and serving as Chairman of institutions such as Limbe Leaf and Blantyre Print, among others. His influence was extensive, and he chaired numerous entities and initiatives throughout his career.

It’s worth noting that JZU preceded President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera in his political journey.
