Malawi Veep Michael Usi hits ground running with Chikwawa District Council Surprise Visit

Michael Usi with Chikwawa DC

Malawi Vice President Dr Michael Usi has made a statement that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera did not make a mistake in appointing him state president after he made a surprise visit to Chikwawa District Council offices on Wednesday. The surprise visit was aimed at scrutinizing the efforts being made to enhance services for Malawians and assess the officers’ punctuality.

Usi, arriving in an impressive display of punctuality before 8 AM, was astonished to find District Commissioner Nardin Kamba already hard at work in his office. He lavishly praised Kamba for setting such an exemplary standard. During his visit to the hospital, Usi effusively expressed his admiration for the outstanding services provided.

“I’m here for time management; so, I have to respect time too and allow you to proceed with your assignments for the day,” he declared with unwavering commitment.

However, he probed the Director of Health Services, Dr. Grace Momba, about the formidable challenges faced by the hospital and the health sector at large.

In response, Momba highlighted the monumental efforts in infrastructure development and outreach services being implemented through Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs).

The Vice President also made a stop at the Pediatric Ward, where he engaged with patients and inspected the ongoing rehabilitation work at the district hospital.

Addressing the challenges, he advised the officers to not solely rely on government support but also to ambitiously write proposals to tackle some of these daunting issues.

Reflecting on the Vice President’s visit, Kamba expressed his immense satisfaction in hosting such a high-profile and inspiring figure in Chikwawa District.

Kamba said: “His presence at our district council and hospital has encouraged us to continue working hard and providing health care and other related services in the district.

“It provided us with a valuable opportunity to showcase our achievements and discuss future initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of our communities.”

Regarding the necessity of obtaining development funds through proposals, Kamba agreed with Usi, noting that the council has already adopted this approach and has successfully secured a 1 million Euro grant from the European Union.

After departing from the hospital, Usi visited Thabwa and engaged with the market vendors.
