Malawi scorchers lift 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship

The Malawi Scorchers secured a historic victory by defeating Zambia 2-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa to be crowned 2023 Cosafa Women’s Champions. It marked their first-ever victory over Zambia. Malawi took the lead with a goal from Agness Phiri, but Zambia managed to level the score in the 87th minute. The decisive moment came when Sabina Thom netted the winning goal in extra time.

As a result of this remarkable win, the Scorchers will return home with a prize of K463, 974,800.00. Malawi’s President, Lazarus Chakwera, extended his congratulations to the team, acknowledging their outstanding performance.
