Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera Urges Citizens to Boost Tourism by Visiting Majete Wildlife Reserve

Lazarus Chakwera

President Lazarus Chakwera, who has spotlighted tourism as a key pillar in revitalizing Malawi’s economy, has called on citizens to visit Majete Wildlife Reserve to support the country’s tourism sector. Speaking during a visit to the reserve in Chikwawa with First Lady Monica Chakwera, the President emphasized the need for Malawians to embrace local tourism to stimulate growth in the industry.

During his tour, Chakwera explored several key sites within Majete, including the Honey Processing Unit, Conservation Monitoring Area, Enforcement Control Room, Memorial Pillar, and Thawale Lodge.

Social and political commentator John Masina backed the President’s appeal, noting that tourism drives economies worldwide. He urged Malawians to heed the call, stating that increased local patronage could also help attract international visitors. Masina emphasized the importance of affordable pricing, encouraging the government to ensure that locals are not deterred by high costs when visiting such attractions.
