Madame Monica Chakwera, the First Lady of Malawi, inaugurated the commencement of the Muslim World League Orphan Allowances Program 2023 at BICC in Lilongwe today.
The Muslim World League has allocated a budget of 8 billion Kwacha for the implementation of the Orphan Program in Malawi for the next 12 months, aiming to support over 6,000 children in the country.
Sheikh Walid El Saad, the Executive Director for Africa, representing the organization, announced the approved budget on behalf of the Muslim World League. He described the league as an international Islamic NGO based in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, dedicated to promoting the true message of Islam by advocating moderate values that encourage peace, tolerance, and love.
“Considering the success of this programme in recent years and the increased scale of our activities we see no better Patron for Muslim World League and our orphans in Malawi than Your Excellency Madam Monica Chakwera” said Sheikh Walid El Saad
In her welcoming remarks, Hon. Abida Sidik Mia called on the Citizens to be inspired by the compassion and commitment of the Muslim World League.
“Let us join hands in supporting initiatives that uplift the vulnerable among us and pave the way for a brighter future. I am confident that under the leadership of Madame Monica Chakwera, this program will bring about positive change, providing solace and assistance to those who need it the most” said Mia
Making her statement, the First Lady applauded the Muslim World League for their continued support towards the Orphans in the country. While acknowledging the 8.5 Billion Kwacha for the Orphans, Madam Chakwera also mentioned the financial contribution of 15 Million Kwacha made to her Charitable Organization, Shaping the Future.
“Allow me to take a moment to acknowledge their commitment to humanitarian causes, including relief work, orphan programs, and assistance during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, reflects a deep and enduring partnership with the people of Malawi” Said Madam Chakwera
Madam Monica Chakwera was the Patron of the launch of the Programme in 2021 during the Covid period and the Programme was executed successfully. Unfortunately, due to challenges during and post-covid, the 2022 programme was suspended.
The colorful event was also patronized by the Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare; Hon. Jean Sendeza, Mrs Colleen Zamba; SPC, Morocco Ambassador to Malawi; Abdelkader Naji, Leaders from different faith groups, and Muslim World League Senior Officials from Saudi Arabia and South Africa among others
