Presidents Chakwera and Boko

The three-day state visit of President Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana to Malawi to grace Malawi’s 61st independence anniversary has sparked enthusiasm among Management and employees of Khato Civils, a giant civil works and construction company currently involved in significant infrastructure projects in the region.

The leadership at Khato Civils views this visit as a pivotal moment for cementing relations between the two nations and fostering further investments in infrastructure development. Pryde Phiri, the Finance Director of Khato Civils, expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of the discussions between the two leaders. “We are grateful for President Boko’s visit, which symbolizes unity and cooperation between Malawi and Botswana,” he stated. “This is not just a ceremonial occasion; we hope it paves the way for more collaborative ventures that will enhance our region’s infrastructure.”

Khato Civils is currently executing the Salima/Lilongwe Water Supply Project, which promises to be one of the largest of its kind in Malawi and the region. The company completed a similar project in Botswana in October last year. The water project executed in Botswana, the Mmamashia Water Treatment Plant, is billed as a state-of-the-art facility that integrates existing infrastructure with new advanced water treatment capabilities. With an impressive capacity to produce 284 mega liters of clean water per day, so far the plant stands as one of the largest in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, heralding a new era of water supply reliability for Botswana.

Phiri emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, calling on leaders within the SADC to promote peaceful coexistence as a pathway for development and prosperity. “For our region to truly thrive, we need to engage in open dialogue and mutual respect among nations,” he affirmed. “It is the only way we can achieve the infrastructure development that our communities urgently need.”

Khato Civils, which has its headquarters in South Africa, has offices in both Botswana and Malawi, attracting skilled labor from these countries to efficiently execute their ambitious projects in Malawi various countries. Their recruitment approach not only enhances the capacity of the workforce on the ground but also symbolizes the deepening ties between the two countries in sectors such as construction and infrastructure development.
