Trouble Kalua who was deputizing Masauko Chamkala at the Legal Aide Bureau has been confirmed as Director of the Bureue by the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament.
Joyce Chitsulo who is PAC’s Chairperson confirmed the development to the local media saying the confirmation is in accordance with Section 9 (1)(b) of the Legal Aid Act.
Section 9 in general provides “ (1) Nominations for appointment to the office of Director and Deputy Director shall be received from the general public following a public advertisement, and successful candidates shall be appointed by the Public Appointments Committee: Provided that the Public Appointments Committee may, if it considers it appropriate so to do, and upon application by the officer concerned, consider an officer serving in the office of— (a) Director or Deputy Director for re-appointment to the respective office; (b) Deputy Director, for appointment to the office of the Director, without the requirement of a public advertisement.
Kalua holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Malawi.
