Pres. Chakwera to address Malawians 7:00 pm today on matters of national interest

Chakwera to address nation tonight

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera today Wednesday at 7:00pm will address the nation on matters of national interest from his Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.

In a statement released by the Presidential Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda, the address will be broadcast live on the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and other media platforms.

The Presidential address will come barely hours after he arrived from his Saudi Arabi-Egypt trip where, among other things, he signed a US$20 million for financing Mangochi-Makanjira Road. The Mangochi-Makanjira road construction deal he signed is expected to open Makanjira for new economic opportunities, as the current state of the road makes it hard for business and economic activities to thrive.

From Saudi Arabia, President Chakwera went to Egypt where he signed a US$2 billion with Africa Export and Import Bank (Afrexim Bank), which will help the country in exports and value addition, ultimately increasing the much needed foreign exchange currency.

While in Egypt, Chakwera also attended the Intra Africa Trade Fair in Cairo, which was organised by the Afrexim Bank. The fair attracted 75 participating countries and 1,600 business exhibitors, entrepreneurs and investors.

The President comes hot on the heels of a 44% devaluation which the Minister of Finance has comprehensively put measures to cushion the power. It is expected that the President will cement and assure the nation not to panic as his caring government will take care to mitigate the impacts of the devaluation.
