We have come full circle: The long arm of the law has caught up with the mafia like party in Malawi, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), as it has been ordered to pay back 14 million kwacha it got from city councils in the name of funding their party in their so-called Blue Night Fundraising when it was in power.
Look, when DPP was in power, it used to threaten government parastatals and city councils to pay them money to bankroll their party operations. This was impunity of the highest order and they thought it would not go unchallenged.
However, Judge Zione Ntaba in Zomba has ordered that the thievery DPP pay back the money. This is an embarrassment to a party that thinks it has the right to rule Malawi again in 2025.
