Karonga was hit by dry spell and crops which was grown have been heavily affected in that there will literally be on harvest. This prompted Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera to visit the area on Thursday where he assured the people affected that government will intervene in their situation.

The president was speaking at Mwenelondo Primary School Chakwera where he disclosed that he is heavily concerned with the current situation in Karonga and that his administration will not sit idle.

Chakwera called on Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) to jack up and start distribution of maize into their depots for people to access.

Chakwera said ADMARC is a key service provider in as far as maize distribution is concerned.

The Malawi leader said it was sad to hear senior chief of the area, Mwankhunikila complaining of unavailability of maize yet the country has enough maize.

“You are too much into paper work taking time than to act whenever such problems occur,” Chakwera said.
