Grateful: Malawi’s VP Usi Hails Chakwera for Kagame Inauguration Delegation

President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi continues to distinguish himself as a leader who fosters strong and productive relationships, defying the historical tension between the President and Vice President roles in the country. Under his leadership, the late Vice President Saulos Chilima enjoyed a remarkable partnership with Chakwera, one that was so solid that Chilima had just arrived from  South Korea where he represented the President at a summit, just 24 hours before his untimely passing in a domestic plan crash.

Chakwera’s ability to maintain harmonious relations extends to the newly appointed Vice President, Michael Usi, who has stepped into the role with equal confidence. Usi, fresh from a successful trip to Rwanda where he represented Chakwera at President Paul Kagame’s inauguration, praised the President for the trust and honor bestowed upon him.

In his brief remarks to the press upon arrival at Kamuzu International Airport, Vice President Usi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Malawi on such an important occasion. He highlighted that his visit also served to connect with Malawians living in Rwanda, discussing critical issues like remittances and investment opportunities back home.

Dr. Usi was particularly impressed by the strong sense of patriotism among the Rwandan people, suggesting that if Malawians could adopt a similar mindset, it would significantly advance the country, especially in line with the Malawi 2063 Vision and the ATM agenda. “As Malawians, we must embrace positivity and love for our nation instead of dwelling on the negative,” he urged.

He further mentioned that Malawi and Rwanda are on the cusp of signing 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in the near future, potentially in Kigali, marking a new chapter of cooperation between the two nations. President Chakwera’s leadership, once again, is proving to be a beacon of hope and progress for Malawi.
