Don’t tighten & show us your contours, Malawi Police Chief Yolamu tells female police officers

The Inspector General of Police in Malawi, Meryln Yolamu, has cautioned female police officers against wearing overly tight uniforms. She has sternly warned that severe disciplinary measures will be taken against those who alter their uniforms to fit tightly. Speaking to officers at Zomba Police Training College, Yolamu asserted that adjusting police attire to resemble fashion garments goes against the established rules and regulations of the police force. She expressed strong disapproval for the practice of some female officers who customize their uniforms to suit personal fashion preferences.

Yolamu emphasized, “The Malawi Police Service has its own prescribed dress code and standards that should not be altered. Please refrain from showcasing your body contours.” Additionally, she criticized officers who resist transfers when instructed to do so.

The police chief further encouraged officers to enhance their financial independence by becoming members of the Police Sacco. She stressed that economically self-sufficient police officers are less likely to engage in corrupt practices in exchange for justice.
