Bishops in the country have categorically stated that the Malawi flavour of Catholicism will not be in the business of offering blessing ‘of any kind and for same-sex unions of any kind” contrary to Pope Francis’ approval of the same.
The Bishops released a statement amidst a flurry of criticism by Malawians on the social media of how low the Church has stooped when the approval by Pope Francis was made known.
Prior to the statement, outspoken Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of the Karonga diocese, came guns blazing accusing those who are ‘tired’ with the faith not to lead people back to ‘paganism’ instead of leading them out of paganism. Mtumbuka said they will not accept to embrace homosexuality or same sex unions regardless of whose mouth any approval to do so comes from. This was in an apparent reference to the Pope.

Malawi as a country does not accept acts of homosexuality or same sex unions and it is a criminal offence to practice same sex activities.
