In a spirited push for voter registration ahead of Malawi’s upcoming general elections, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera addressed a vibrant crowd at Santhe Trading Centre in Kasungu today, Wednesday, 20 November 2024.
He passionately urged citizens to take ownership of their democratic rights by registering to vote, emphasizing that their participation is crucial for sustaining the nation’s transformative journey. “If you want all these good developments to continue, make sure you register in large numbers. Voting is a human right,” Chakwera declared, energizing attendees with a call to civic responsibility.
Kasungu district, often regarded as a microcosm of Malawi’s broader potential, is currently experiencing a seismic shift in development, marked by a series of ambitious infrastructure projects spearheaded by the Chakwera administration.
One standout initiative is the revitalization of the M1 Road, which has undergone significant upgrades. The extensive improvements to its design and functionality have not only enhanced connectivity but have also brought renewed optimism to local residents and road users alike, symbolizing a commitment to progress.
During his address, Chakwera also reassured local tobacco farmers, a vital segment of Malawi’s economy, of his government’s pledge to ensure fair compensation for their hard work. After a successful past season, farmers received a message of hope, reaffirming that their contributions are valued and recognized by the administration.
The President went further to address pressing humanitarian concerns, announcing that the government is set to distribute food relief to families grappling with hunger. Echoing this sentiment, Kasungu South Member of Parliament and Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, lauded Chakwera for breathing new life into the tobacco industry. Drawing parallels to the legacy of Malawi’s first President, Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, he declared that the people of Kasungu stand ready to re-elect Chakwera, recognizing his administration’s vision for continued advancement.
