In a commendatory tone, President Chakwera expressed gratitude to Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara for her adept management and leadership prowess in navigating the tumultuous waters of the Malawi National Assembly, particularly during instances of disruption caused by the DPP.
Amidst resounding approval from government legislators and objections from opposition members, President Chakwera subtly criticized the DPP, highlighting Speaker Hara’s role in preventing the legislative body from devolving into a battleground for internal party conflicts that are irrelevant to the welfare of the Malawian populace.
“Thank you so much Madam Speaker for preventing the house from being turned into a warehouse of settling intra-party wrangles that has nothing to do with the welfare of the Malawian people,” said the President.
The President’s remarks alluded to the immature behavior exhibited by DPP lawmakers, who were reprimanded by the Speaker for defying her directives to vacate the parliamentary premises.
These remarks were delivered by the President during a parliamentary session convened to address inquiries as mandated by constitutional provisions, underscoring the accountability owed by the executive to the citizenry.
