Chakwera Administration Extends Road Network Improvement to Residential Zones: Area 49 Next

People residing in Area 49 in Lilongwe city are soon bidding farewell to dusty roads reading to their homes following launch of a tarmac project in the area.

Area 49 is one of the dwelling zones which has endured poor road network since God created the world, but things are about to feel different to those staying in New Shire area.

Member of Parliament whose jurisdiction includes the Area 49 location, Alfred Jiya was joined officials from Lilongwe City Council among other stakeholder to launch the project which has been contracted to  Projex Group Limited and Master Construction who will jointly carry out the construction works.

Government is expected to spend K3.8 billion and will be funded through Road Fund Administration. Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, Lilongwe City Council Mayor Councillor Richard Banda appealed to the contractor to finish this project in time.

“Make sure to complete the project by erecting hamps road signs and a proper drainage system,” he emphasized. He then advised the community around the area to help in securing machines that will be used for the project.

Member of Parliament for the area Alfred Jiya was all smiles that the project has finally come into reality. He commended people of the area for their patience.

Jiya said it was sad that in the past, people around the area were contributing money to have the road graded. The member of parliament also expressed happiness that Kaunda Road will soon be dualised. He commended Lilongwe City Council for ensuring that road network in the city is of high standard.

In his speech, Councillor Patrick Makumba commended Lilongwe City Council for the road project. Makumba urged the contractor to employ people from the area.
