Chakwera Accelerates Re-election Bid Campaign: Conducts Second Territorial Launch in the South

As Rumours Hit the Streets that Mutharika's Legs Demanded Rest after Presenting Nomination Papers

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the September presidential elections, Malawi’s Head of State and Government, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, has kicked his campaign into high gear, leaving no stone unturned to solidify his position as the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) presidential candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, faces rumors of health concerns following the submission of his nomination papers. Rumour mills are informing that the DPP candidate headed straight to bedrest mode following his nomination paper submission earlier today in Lilongwe.

Just two days after launching the MCP manifesto in the capital city of Lilongwe on Saturday, President Chakwera ventured to the Northern region for a regional launch of the party’s manifesto at Mzimba Stadium, which his administration is constructing. This event took place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, showcasing Chakwera’s commitment to connecting with voters across the nation.

Continuing his aggressive campaign schedule, President Chakwera made his way to the Southern region today, where he is addressing a crowd at M’gabu in Chikhwawa district. The M’gabu launch has drawn a mammoth crowd attendance, reflecting an up-swelling of support for the ruling party in the region.

Chakwera’s campaign has been marked by energetic rallies and strategic messages tailored to address the concerns of Malawians across various regions. His vigorous efforts to promote the MCP’s agenda and achievements underscore his determination to retain the presidency.

In stark contrast, Mutharika, who has been facing increasing scrutiny and speculation about his health, is reportedly recommended for bed rest as he began complaining about his legs shortly after presenting his nomination papers. Mutharika’s campaign progress appears clouded by these health rumors, raising concerns about his readiness for the electoral contest ahead.
