The Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale has told Parliament that his Ministry will open ADMARC markets across the country next week.
Kawale disclosed that government will dispatch 12, 640 metric tons of Maize in the first phase. In breaking down, the Minister says 10170 metric tons of maize will head to the south, 1 320 metric tons swill head to the center and 1, 150 will head to the north.
The south is getting a lion’s share as it is a region which was hard hit by Cyclone Freddy as such, people did not harvest in the by gone maize growing season.
This development quells the grievances and objections raised by certain civil society groups urging the government to initiate ADMARC market operations. Additionally, it highlights the compassionate nature of the Chakwera administration.
