Leader of Opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who has recently been fired as a member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) alongside other senior members namely Cecelia Chazama, Grizelda Jeffrey and Mark Botoman has said he will challenge what he described as ‘unjust expulsion’ from the Democratic Progressive Party.
This move has been disclosed by Kondwani Nankhumwa in a statement made available to the Shire Times on Tuesday.
“It is with great sadness and disappointment that I write to you today. Despite all my years of service to the party and my commitment to its vision and values, I have been recently been expelled from the party, along with four other members,” in part reads a statement signed by Nankhumwa released today.
According to Nankhumwa, the expulsion is not about any wrong doing on his part but about ‘political power and control.’
“I want to make it clear that I am not going to let this stand. We have decided to take this matter to court, where we will fight for our rights as members of the Democratic Progressive Party. We will not be silenced and we will not be intimidated.”
In conclusion, Nankhumwa hopes that other members of the party will stand with the fired members and demand that the party leadership upholds the principles of democracy and respect the rights of all members.
Meanwhile, there is consensus among political analysts in the country who are describing the decision taken by the DPP in firing the four members as undemocratic.
