President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera hosted a dinner on Friday to express gratitude to donors for their extensive support during times of national calamities. During the event, Chakwera commended the donors for their assistance.
The president said ”Time and time again, each of you in your respective ways have come to our aid, not only with generous material contributions, but also with great ideas, great advice, and great advocacy on Malawi’s behalf in many places around the world where you are often the only voice speaking well of Malawi.
“And the dividends that Malawi has benefited from your friendship have been rich, including the recent decision the International Monetary Fund to grant Malawi an Extended Credit Facility that has already started attracting budgetary support, ” he said.
The president highlighted the positive outcomes that Malawi has reaped from its alliance with donors, such as the recent approval by the International Monetary Fund of an Extended Credit Facility. This approval has already begun attracting international investments and providing budgetary support to the economy.
“Whether your role in that outcome was big or small, I want you to know that we do not take any of it for granted. And I know that this is just one example, which is why I insisted that all of you come tonight, because even beyond the ECF, each of you have been immense in your support to Malawi in ways that are too many to mention individually, but all of which have been indispensable to Malawi’s ability to weather multiple storms,” he said.
