Mutharika Falls Sick; DPP Cancels Masintha Rally

Peter Mutharika

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has pulled down its arrangement for a political rally in Lilongwe, a statement signed by Mutharika’s Spokesperson, Shadreck Namalomba, who is also DPP’s Co-Spokesperson, has informed.

Sources privy to Shire Times have confided that the cancellation has been done as Mutharika is still not fit for the occasion following his ailment which kicked in Monday evening and is currently receiving medical care by his private doctors at his residence.

In an effort to conceal this reason, the DPP’s announcement has claimed that the cancellation, which has not been assigned an alternative date until further notice, is “to allow members of the DPP to join their fellow Malawians in commemorating first and second world war fighters”.

Axiomatically, while the said world wars fighters are commemorated on 11th November each year, Malawi and many African countries are least concerned with this commemoration. World wars one and two were fought between Western allied forces against Germany imperialism and soldiers from the African countries were drafted into the fight as hired guns. It had nothing to do with freedom of African countries who had to fight for their own freedom from the very western countries who colonized Africa.

Further, the DPP planned its rally for Sunday, 12th November, a day after the purported world wars commemoration day. Thus the DPP’s claim that the cancellation of a rally on 12 November is to allow the DPP members commemorate this day is completely fallacious and disjointed.

“The reason is that Mutharika is sick and doctors have advised him against the rally which may worsen his condition. If at all it was because of the reasons provided in the statement, a definite day could have been set. But before that, are you suggesting that they didn’t know about 11 November when planning for 12 November all along? You see?” said the source.
