The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Honourable Abida Sidik Mia presided over the launch of Management Models for Malawi Rural Water Supply Systems and Market Centres (MMFMRWSS) at BICC in Lilongwe on the 25th of October, 2023.
The Ministry in collaboration with one of its key partners, Water for People, embarked on a study to review the current management systems for water services in rural areas and market centres across the country.
The initiative has resulted into the development of Innovative Management Models (IMM) that have the potential to transform the accessibility and sustainability of clean water sources in the country.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said it is necessary that deliberate steps are taken to mitigate the effects of current situation of rural water supply services by comprehensively assessing the needs’ gaps and strategically plan to address them.
“The Government recognizes the challenges that exist in rural water supply hence the launch of this study to accelerate the attainment of the SGD6” said Mia
The meeting also aimed to disseminate the findings of this comprehensive study as well as launch the pilot of implementation of the recommendations from the study.
