Malawi’s President, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, engaged in a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday during the BRICS summit in South Africa. Chakwera shared on his Facebook page that the initial one-on-one interaction with President Xi Jinping was highly productive. The dialogue served to solidify their joint commitment to drive swift advancements in infrastructure and sustain macroeconomic stability through their bilateral partnership.
Chakwera went on to express his gratitude to President Xi, acknowledging the consistent support provided by China in various sectors such as education, telecommunications, infrastructure, and assistance during the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy. President Xi Jinping, in response, conveyed his appreciation for Malawi’s steadfast endorsement of the One-China Policy. He also commended Malawi’s role as a prominent advocate for the interests of developing nations within BRICS and other international forums. Furthermore, President Xi assured Malawi of China’s backing in enhancing climate resilience and attaining its developmental goals.
During his address at the BRICS Summit, Xi conveyed that Africa can rely on China as a dependable partner.
