President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has instructed that the late former Minister Peter Fatchi be laid to rest with full military honors. The decision was announced by Eisenhower Mkaka, the Secretary General of the Malawi Congress Party and a legislator from Lilongwe Mpenu. The government’s decision to bestow military honors upon Fatchi is a testament to their ongoing commitment to recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation.
Nicholas Dausi, the Member of Parliament for Mwanza West, also supported the idea of granting Fatchi military honors, acknowledging it as a fitting tribute to his distinguished service to the country. Fatchi was one of the founding members of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and served in various high-profile roles, including Minister of Justice and Attorney General, during his time in office.
It’s worth noting that the Chakwera Administration has previously bestowed military honors on individuals who served in previous regimes. One such example is Joseph Kubwalo, who was a colleague of Fatchi in Muluzi’s Administration.
