Hassan Chikuta, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) councillor for Malindi Ward, has been elected as the new chairperson of Mangochi District Council today. Previously serving as the deputy chairperson, Councillor Chikuta secured 16 votes in the election. Her victory was significant as she defeated Ivy Sande, the former chairperson from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) representing Malombe ward, who received 6 votes, and Abdullah Yusufu, another DPP councillor from Makanjira North Ward, who obtained 14 votes.
Additionally, the council also elected Adams Bwana, the DPP councillor representing Mlimba ward, as its vice chairperson.
