University of Malawi law students have defeated the Nguludi-based Catholic University law students in a moot court competition that took place at the High Court Blantyre registry. The Team of Mathews Chawinga and Joel Elifala showcased to the Malawi nation why real law is taught at Chancellor College when they effortlessly and eloquently convinced the three-member panel of Judges comprising Judge Mike Tembo, Jabar Alide, and Judge Kaira.
To the winners, they went back to Chirunga with a cool half million Malawi kwacha and trophies whereas the runners-up proceeded to Nguludi with three hundred Malawi kwacha.
The Moot competition was sponsored by DNC Chambers of David Njobvu as one of the partners. According to Njobvu, the DNC Moot court competition has come to stay in the country as he has promised that they will continue sponsoring the same in the future.
For starters, moot court competition is a contest in which opposing pairs of counsel argue a fictitious legal appeal case in front of a ‘judge.’
