The board of directors of financially crippled Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC) has suspended the corporation’s executive management for alleged mismanagement of proceeds from the sale of property estimated at K1.6 billion.
The board, which met on Thursday, made the resolution following the disposal of MPC building in Zomba at K1.6 billion.
In a communication to colleagues made available to Shire Times, MPC acting Postmaster General (PMG) Zacchaeus George Meke said he has been suspended for failing to ring fence proceeds from the disposal of the Zomba building due to pressing circumstances involving pre-existing liabilities.
“You will be communicated in due course on the acting PMG position going forward. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you for the support rendered to me during the 17 months period.
“For those we differed in opinion and perspective, it wasn’t any personal and I hold no grudge. May you therefore consider it the same. To those entrusted in leading MPC going forward, I wish you all the best. I will be available to offer any help to those that need it. May God bless you and entire MPC,” reads the letter.
MPC spokesperson Ida Nkolimbo and MPC board chairperson Noel Mkulichi are yet to comment on the matter.
However, they already confirmed about the board meeting and the sale of the building.
It is alleged that the proceeds from the sale of the building were used to settle debts accumulated by the parastatal.
