Malawi Chewa Chiefs  Praise Chakwera’s Path of Development at Kulamba Ceremony

At the vibrant Kulamba cultural ceremony in Katete, Zambia on Saturday, Malawian Chewa chiefs delivered a dramatic endorsement of President Lazarus Chakwera, declaring that his record in office has so transformed the nation that even King Gawa Undi himself “would need a tour guide to find his way” through the many new developments.

Speaking on behalf of the Malawi Chewa chiefs, Traditional Authority Salima said the roads, bridges and infrastructure springing up under Chakwera’s leadership have redrawn Malawi’s landscape. “The paths are many, the roads are new, and the bridges are strong. Without a guide, even a king would lose his bearings,” she said, painting a picture of a country in motion.

President Chakwera, who attended the ceremony alongside his Zambian counterpart President Hakainde Hichilema, urged the Chewa community to pray for Malawi as the nation approaches elections in two weeks. “It is my prayer too that when I return here next year, it will still be as a Head of State,” he told the crowd with humility.

The occasion carried a special irony: both Chakwera and Hichilema once stood side by side as opposition leaders of their respective countries, bound by a common struggle. Now, they return to the Kulamba as sitting presidents — a living testament to perseverance, faith, and the long arc of destiny.

Beyond cultural symbolism, the chiefs’ endorsement framed Chakwera’s leadership not as tribal loyalty but as a call for continuity in national development — a reminder that, as the proverb says, “a harvest must not be abandoned before it is ripe.”
