“Why Is Chakwera Last on MEC list of nomination submission & not Mutharika?” – DPP Cadets Cry

President Chakwera at MCP Manifesto launch at BNS

Once again, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is crying and complaining. This time, they are angry because the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has asked their leader, Peter Mutharika, to submit his nomination papers on Friday, 25th July 2025. But is that something to cry about?

DPP is asking why President Lazarus Chakwera is the last one on the nomination list. They say MEC is helping Chakwera. But this is nothing new. In 2019 and again in 2020, Chakwera was the first to submit his papers, even at 7 o’clock in the morning. MCP did not complain that time, even though they were treated unfairly. Now the same thing has happened to DPP — and they are making noise like a baby that dropped its toy.

Let us be honest. Chakwera is the President. Even when Peter Mutharika was President, he submitted his papers last. So why is DPP surprised now? MEC has actually been fair this time. Mutharika is not even the first to go — Joyce Banda is. And Mutharika’s time is not too early. It is 9:00 in the morning — not 7, not 6. It is a good time.

If DPP is angry because their candidate still doesn’t know who his running mate is, then they should not blame MEC. They should blame themselves. Time is running out. This is not the time to sleep or waste time.

DPP needs to stop acting like victims. They are crying for something they once did to others. They used to laugh when MCP was treated unfairly. Now they are the ones crying. As they say: “If you eat salt, do not cry when you get thirsty.”

This is not cheating. This is just the wheel of life turning. When you are on top, treat others well — because one day, you too will be at the bottom. Today, Chakwera is President, so it is normal that he goes last. Tomorrow, who knows?

So DPP, stop the noise. Get ready, submit your papers, and let the people decide. Crying will not help. Elections are not about who goes first — they are about who the people choose. And the people are watching.
