Vitumbiko Mumba’s dreams of MCP Vice Presidency shuttered; will he engineer his way in?

Engineer Mumba

The ambitious aspirations of Vitumbuko Mumba, a dynamic and promising young politician within the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), have been dashed if not delayed. Renowned for his professional prowess as an Engineer, Mumba harbored hopes of ascending to the role of Deputy President alongside Chakwera within the party hierarchy.

However, these dreams were shattered following a decisive resolution from the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) which met yesterday at the MCP headquarters in Lilongwe, a meeting which was presided over by President Lazarus Chakwera.

The NEC resolution effectively imposes a stringent criterion, stipulating that only individuals who have held party positions for the past two years are eligible to contest in the upcoming convention. This resolution bars newcomers like Mumba and other aspiring politicians, including Uladi Mussa, from vying for senior leadership positions within the party’s politburo.
