UTM leadership moves to tame its uncultured youth: “One President at a time”

BLANTYRE-The leadership of UTM has sent a strong warning to some of the youth in the party whose actions are bent towards spoiling the cordial relationship existing between the country’s President Lazarus Chakwera and his vice Saulos Klaus Chilima.

UTM and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) went into an alliance ahead of the court-sanctioned Fresh Presidential Election, in which they secured a resounding victory, sending the Democratic Progressive Party to opposition side.

However, there have been pufferies emanating from the UTM youth aimed at raising the profile of Chilima at the expense of President Chakwera.

However, as the so called UTM youth thought were doing a good job for the party, the top leadership has disassociated the party from such actions and “insubordination to the authority of  His Excellence The President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.”

“There are some evil people who are hell bent on creating a toxic working environment between our leaders: His Excellency the President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima; for whatever motives. Knowing how evil and devilishly selfish some small brains are, this was expected.

“However, the ferocity and extensive nature of the campaign to put a wedge between our two leaders is now becoming too poisonous to the well-being of Malawi and posing a threat to the dreams and aspirations of a better Malawi for all Malawians,” reads the statement signed by publicity secretary Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo.

The reaction by UTM comes on the heels of a propaganda circulating on social media alleging that Chilima is behind the timely salary remittance to civil servants this month.

But UTM says whatever duty Chilima is executing while the President is outside of the country for official duty, is assigned to him by the President.

“The Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima carries out tasks and responsibilities assigned to him by the President, from time to time. Therefore and, everything that is done in government is under the blessing and auspices of the President; as such, anyone that construes any notion that anyone other than the President should take credit for issues, is deranged to say the least, and nefariously ignorant of how government works,” reads the statement.

UTM has emphasized that Malawi can only prosper when there is harmony between the two leaders.

“It is in our spirit of patriotism and our firm belief that Malawi can only achieve greatness when there is harmony between our leaders, first and foremost; and harmony and peace amongst all Malawians. These are values and virtues we were bequeathed from our Father and Founder Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda (may peace be upon his soul).”

“We, therefore, as the leadership and a movement, condemn the graphic above and all insinuations made now and even before now, that are bent on creating any perception of insubordination to the authority of  His Excellence The President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera,” the statement reads further.

The party has reminded Malawians that “we only have one President at a time and right now it is His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. Let everyone respect that and live with that reality so that we can focus on building a better Malawi.”

UTM has further warned the perpetrators that they will be exposed and put to shame very soon.

UTM and MCP are the only parties in the Tonse Alliance that enjoy massive support in the country.

In the botched 2019 presidential election MCP came second while UTM was on third position.
