The Eagle has landed with Nankhumwa forming Peoples Development Party

Expelled from the once-dominant Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), a former Vice President for the South, Kondwani Nankhumwa, has ignited a political wildfire, poised to scorch the party’s influence in the southern region.

Nankhumwa, who is the current Member of Parliament for Mulanje Central has forged his own political path, birthing the People’s Development Party (PDP) with a thunderous declaration. While scant on details for now, the revelation hints at seismic shifts to come.

According to Joseph Masina, a Senior Shire Times Political Commentator, said this move has been a long-awaited crescendo. Masina thinks that the PDP’s formation is aimed as a vehicle for Nankhumwa to be closer to power by being a king maker in 2025.

“Frankly, Nankhumwa’s presidential aspirations for 2025 appear to be a quixotic endeavor,” Masina opined.

“His best bet lies in vying for the role of Vice President, perhaps in a strategic alliance with the MCP. In the current electoral climate, the big parties venturing solo is tantamount to political suicide.

Thus, astute political entrepreneurs like Nankhumwa are gravitating towards intermediary parties to cozy up to the corridors of power. The litmus test lies in his positioning: if he can exhibit political prowess, he may curry favor with the MCP. However, should he falter, this could signal the twilight of his political career.”
