Parliament witnessed a spectacle as two individuals, Mary Navicha and Kondwani Nankhumwa, rose to assert their claims to the position of Leader of the Opposition.
This episode unfolded following Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara’s call for the leader of the opposition to validate the communication regarding the Business Committee’s resolution.
Nevertheless, Gotani Hara disregarded Navicha’s claim to the leadership position, affirming Nankhumwa instead.
In a separate development, Speaker Gotani Hara temporarily halted parliamentary proceedings for a duration of 10 minutes. This action came in response to the refusal of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) MPs to vacate the premises as ordered by the Speaker.
