Silver Strikers thrashes Wanderers 2-0: TNM Super League

Wanderers humbled by Silver Strikers

Silver Strikers on Sunday maintained their home winning in style when they beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 2-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

The win has taken Silver Strikers six points clear on top of second-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

The Central Bankers were in top form since the first whistle as they kept possession and created more chances than the guests.

Thirteen minutes into the first half, Zebron Kalima could have broken the deadlock as he received a well-worked cross from McDonald Lameck but Kalima missed the target by a whisker.

Silver Strikers kept on pushing for a goal but couldn’t find the back of the net until halftime.

Come the second half, the Central Bankers snatched a lead to cement their first-half good performance when Chimwemwe Idana provided a pass to Captain Chikondi Kamanga who curled in a volley from outside the box at 57 minutes leaving Richard Chipuwa helpless.

At 60 minutes, Head Coach Peter Mponda rested Adiel Kaduya and introduced Chinsinsi Maonga.

10 minutes from time, rains started pouring down but could not stand down Silver Strikers’ zeal to finish off the game and it was by no surprise that at 84 minutes Zebron Kalima doubled the lead with a screamer from outside the eighteen-yard box.

Kalima’s goal sealed off the win for the Area 47 side.

After the match Mponda said playing the game at home automatically meant that his side needed to be on top of the game at all costs and win the match.

The gaffer said he was satisfied with the performance of his side.

“We played very well today as we kept possession as well as created so many chances but that’s what we wanted as a home team, we had to give them a good run. With six points clear at the top we still feel that we have to work extra hard as we have just played seven games and we have a long way to go, the run continues and we are focused on the next match”, said Mponda.

Uchuzi Vunga was voted Man of the Match.
