In a thrilling showdown at Dedza Stadium on Sunday, a late strike by Charles Chipala rescued a point for the Central Bankers against Dedza Dynamos. This draw marks Silver Strikers’ third match of the season, placing them just behind Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the standings, with both teams locked at 7 points. The only thing separating them is goal difference.
The match attracted a massive crowd, and from the kickoff, both teams showcased impressive possession and skill. The Central Bankers had an early opportunity at 11 minutes, but failed to capitalize. Dedza Dynamos took the lead just before halftime, with Victor Lungu heading in a cross from Khumbo Banda.
During halftime, coach Peter Mponda made strategic substitutions, bringing in Zebron Kalima, Paul Kansungwi, and Charles Chipala, injecting new energy into the team. Chipala, in particular, made an impact, netting the equalizer in the 75th minute with a precise finish.
Tempers flared as both teams pushed for a winning goal, but ultimately, the match ended in a deadlock. Coach Mponda expressed satisfaction with the point, acknowledging the challenge of playing at Dedza. Chipala’s goal marks his second of the season, cementing his role as a key player for the Central Bankers.
“The game today was exciting as anticipated, we played very well on our part and we managed to come from behind and get the point. I think we need to congratulate the boys for the work they put in this match”, he said.
The Central Bankers now look forward to hosting MAFCO FC over the weekend at Silver Stadium in their fourth 2024 TNM Super League match.
