Road to 2025 elections: Human Rights Activists Mwakasungula lauds Peace commissioners’ appointment

Seasoned activist Mwakasungula

Formerly known for his confrontational approach as a Human Rights Activist, Undule Mwakasungula has expressed his approval of President Lazarus Chakwera’s decision to appoint fresh Peace and Unity Commissioners. Mwakasungula believes that this move will contribute to the promotion of nationwide tranquility, especially as the country moves closer to the 2025 Tripartite Elections.

“The Commissioners’ actions must reflect the highest ideals of service to the nation and their legacy be one of striving for unity,” adds Mwakasungula in a statement.

Yesterday, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera named the Commissioners of the Malawi Peace and Unity Commission. Their appointment became effective from November 2.

The appointees comprise Reverend Zacc Kawalala, Sheikh Ali Makalani, Bishop Mary Nkosi, Paramount Chief Kyungu, Emma Kaliya, and Francis Mkandawire.

As outlined in the National Peace Policy of August 2017, the Commission’s responsibility is to examine conflict-prone areas and take proactive measures to prevent potential conflicts.
