In a nation steeped in numerous conspiracy theories, Malawians have finally embraced the notion that one of their own, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, possesses a genuine commitment to assisting those in precarious circumstances. It’s not just a singular occurrence, but rather an uncountable number of times that Bushiri has come to the aid of his fellow Malawians in various predicaments. The latest instance involves 36 financially challenged students from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) who were on the brink of discontinuing their education. Bushiri has stepped in and alleviated their burden with a generous donation of K9.5 million towards their tuition. Isn’t this a heartening development? If this doesn’t qualify as commendable, then what does?

Announcing the gesture at the institution’s campus in Blantyre, Chief Executive Officer of Shepherd Bushiri Foundation, Duncan Zgambo, said this is one way of empowering young people.

“We are investing in education. We realise how much the country and young people stand to benefit from it,” he said.

Executive Dean of the University’s School of Education, Communication and Media Studies, Kizito Kanyoma, thanked the Foundation for responding to their request.

“This is a big relief to the students and the university. Students that had outstanding fee balances will continue with their education, ” said Kanyoma.

Seemingly excited, one of the beneficiaries, a third-year student, Lawrence Fundeni, said the gesture has reignited hope for his future.
