President Lazarus Chakwera officially launched the ambitious initiative to construct 34 high-end schools in all districts across the country. The launch has occurred today, Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Kasiya, T/A Khongoni in Lilongwe. According to his remarks, this project, which aims to build a future for the youth and the nation, has been one of the President’s administration’s top priorities since its announcement in December 2020.
During his address, President Chakwera expressed his commitment to education as a cornerstone for national development, emphasizing the urgency overcome bureaucratic delays and deliver tangible results. He highlighted that the construction timeline for the launched project site has been set at one year, following prolonged stagnation attributed to sloppy leadership in the Ministry of Education where he has since replaced the minister.
“Development work should not be handled frivolously or carelessly because developmental work is what Malawians demand,” President Chakwera stated. He underscored the need for efficiency and accountability within government ministries, warning officials against allowing procrastination and the misuse of bureaucratic procedures to hinder progress.
The President dismissed the notion that work should only commence once all conditions are perfect, likening it to a mechanic who begins repairs with the tools available and seeks additional equipment when needed.
Highlighting the significance of Kasiya as the birthplace of this education infrastructure initiative, President Chakwera remarked on the area’s hidden mineral resources, particularly rutile deposits, which are expected to play a critical role in the nation’s overall economic growth. “There is a special grace that is upon us as a nation during this time, and we should leverage this grace appropriately,” he added.
In a move set to excite economic prospects, President Chakwera announced that further details on the rutile mining operations will be revealed in the upcoming Parliamentary session opening scheduled for next week. He assured Malawians that his administration, which looks forward to 2030, is dedicated to reaping the rewards of national resources developed through careful planning and effort.
The Schools of Excellence initiative, backed by the government, is expected to not only elevate educational standards across Malawi but also to stimulate job creation and economic development as the country maximizes its natural mineral wealth.
“Today, I have officially launched the project for constructing Schools of Excellence across the country. May God bless you all,” concluded President Chakwera, leaving a crowd of supporters and officials optimistic about the future of education and economic growth in Malawi.
