President Chakwera highlights progress and challenges, makes granular presentation of developments

 

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said Government under his leadership has made substantial progress in economic development, food security, human capital, and infrastructure development. He also acknowledged persistent challenges in these sectors, highlighting his resolve to shrink their impact while working to eradicate them

In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) during the opening of the 51st Parliamentary session President Chakwera acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by Malawians, such as economic difficulties after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite these obstacles, he highlighted that his administration has met the expectations of most citizens, with development initiatives reaching every region of the country.

The President said his administration has effectively disbursed funds through the Social Cash Transfer programme and other initiatives, ensuring that underprivileged individuals have access to financial support to meet their basic needs.

He also stated that the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) has provided loans to people all districts, to empower the local business community and promote sustainability.

President Chakwera mentioned his administration’s efforts to distribute food relief and aid to families affected by cyclones due to the effects of climate change.

His government has also focused on constructing schools, school blocks, and health centers, while increasing the number of teachers and healthcare workers to strengthen the country’s human capital.

The President further stressed that his government has revived and built new irrigation schemes, alongside launching mega farm initiatives, which are aimed at making Malawi a more food-secure nation in the future.

He also highlighted the construction of new housing for security agencies, signaling a commitment to improving security infrastructure across all regions.

President Chakwera also pointed out the swift rehabilitation of roads and critical bridges in all districts, making accessibility much easier for the people, regardless of political affiliations.

The President also highlighted the progress made in expanding electricity access through the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP) and solar-powered initiatives, which have connected more communities to the national power grid.
