Pres. Suluhu assures Malawians: Tanzania supports your economic success

Pres. Chakwera and Suluhu

President Samia Suluhu of the United Republic of Tanzania assured the people of Malawi, during their 59th Independence celebrations, that Tanzania will not hinder Malawi’s economic success. The Tanzania leader said this in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe when she was invited to be the guest of honour during the Independence Day celebrations, which falls annually on 6th July.

Malawi, being a landlocked country, heavily relies on Tanzania’s ports for the majority of its imports. Therefore, any strained relations with Tanzania would have disastrous consequences for Malawi’s economic endeavors.

Further in her speech, President Suluhu extended her condolences to the people of Malawi following the tragic and unexpected loss of lives during the devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy.

Speaking earlier, President Chakwera expressed gratitude to President Suluhu for Tanzania’s support during the period of Cyclone Freddy. Tanzania had dispatched helicopters and military personnel to assist in the distribution of essential supplies, such as food and medicine, to remote and inaccessible areas of Malawi.
