Pres. Chakwera: Youth Champion, Disburses Millions to Support Needy Varsity Students & Mpatsa School

Pres. Lazarus Chakwera

There is no denying that Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera stands as a steadfast ally of the nation’s youth. His unwavering commitment to supporting needy students in public universities speaks volumes. Whether it’s by significantly increasing their upkeep allowance to an impressive six hundred thousand kwacha or by spearheading additional fundraising efforts, President Chakwera consistently prioritizes the welfare of Malawi’s future leaders. Through the Presidential Charity Initiative Golf Tournament, the President has been diligently raising funds for the youth, and today at Kamuzu Palace, he presented cheques to deserving beneficiaries from the 2023 tournament proceeds. This initiative underscores his dedication to empowering the next generation.

“From the K450 million realised, each of the six public universities has received K37.5 million to support needy and deserving students. The students are from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Malawi University of Business and Applied Studies (MUBAS), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) and University of Malawi (Unima).”

According to the President, the remaining K225 million is meant for reconstruction of Mpatsa Primary School in Nsanje District which was completely washed away by Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

“This brings hope to 33 teachers and 2,494 leaners, 14 of which are of special needs due to visual impairment. In line with Enabler #5 of Malawi2063 Vision – Human Capital Development – I am determined to sustain this initiative as way of building adequate human capacity for long-term development,” said President Chakwera.
