As Chakwera nears his fifth year in office, he has announced that he will construct a 17,000 state of the art stadium at BAT ground in the commercial capital Lilongwe.
In a statement released by the Malawi Sports Council “ the first phase of the project will involve demolishing BAT ground and earthworks which is expected to start in April, 2024.”
“The second phase will involve construction works, which are set to commence in October of this year and be completed in 24 months.”
According to the statement, “the council believes that the new state of the art stadium will revolutionise the sporting experience in Malawi and add beauty to the city of Blantyre.”
