Following the untimely demise of Malawi Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, some opposition members anticipated that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of the MCP would face hostility, particularly in the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) southern stronghold. However, yesterday, these naysayers were utterly astonished as President Chakwera made a triumphant entry into Mangochi, where an immense crowd, a veritable sea of red, gathered to welcome him.
“Chakwera is the true leader. His ability to steer us through the darkest times following the Vice President’s death showcases his immense compassion and leadership,” exclaimed a youthful man in his late twenties at Mangochi Boma. “Some thought we would buy into their propaganda, linking President Chakwera to the Vice President’s death, but honestly, only a fool would entertain such a theory. It was a tragic accident, nothing more.”
During the welcoming rally, Second Deputy Secretary General Gerald Kazembe expressed gratitude to Chakwera for the significant development projects initiated in the eastern region, such as the Nkhuzi-Bay water project and the rehabilitation of the Balaka-Zomba road.
“Chakwera is on track to secure 50% plus one in the 2025 elections and renew his governance mandate. This enthusiastic welcome from the southern people is, therefore, no surprise,” remarked a woman attending the rally at the Boma.
